Question 1

How much does it cost to rent a houseboat on Shasta Lake?

Accepted Answer

Shasta Lake houseboat rentals with Houseboats.com start at $2,392 for a 3-night low-season trip on the Senator and run to $22,320 for a 7-night holiday week on the flagship Titan. There is a 3-night minimum on every houseboat. Every quoted price already includes taxes and mandatory fees.

Question 2

What is the cheapest time of year to rent a houseboat on Shasta Lake?

Accepted Answer

Low season — Jan 1–Apr 30, Aug 19–29 and Oct 1–Dec 31, 2027 — carries the lowest rates of the year, with fewer boats on the water and comfortable daytime temperatures. High season runs June through August, and holiday weeks (May 24–31 · Jun 28–Jul 5 · Aug 30–Sep 6) are the most expensive dates on the calendar. Booking mid-week in a shoulder month is the single biggest way to lower your total.

Question 3

What is included in the price, and what costs extra?

Accepted Answer

Every rental includes a full orientation before departure, a complete galley kitchen with cookware, dishes and utensils, Coast Guard–approved life jackets in all sizes, and all taxes and mandatory fees. Fuel, your refundable security deposit, linens, food and beverages, fishing licenses, watersports add-ons and pet fees are separate.

Question 4

How much is the security deposit for a houseboat?

Accepted Answer

The refundable security deposit ranges from $750 to $5,000 depending on the houseboat model, with larger vessels like the Titan at the top of that range. It is held against damage and returned after the boat is checked in. Your reservation confirmation lists the exact amount for the boat you book.

Question 5

Do I need a boating license to rent a houseboat on Shasta Lake?

Accepted Answer

No. A boating license, boating permit or California Boater Card is not required to rent or operate our boats. Every guest acting as Charter Captain or Co-Captain must complete the Houseboats.com Boater Safety Test before departure — about 10 minutes, with no exemptions. Captains must be at least 21 years old (25 for the Titan) and hold a valid driver's license.

Question 6

How far in advance should I book?

Accepted Answer

For peak summer dates (late June through mid-August) and holiday weeks, book 9 to 12 months ahead — the Titan and Escapade go first. Low-season and mid-week dates in May, September and October are far more flexible and often available with shorter notice.
